RoHS-Lead Free

RoHS - Lead Free Circuit Boards

With the exception of explicit orders for a HAL SnPb(lead-tin) surface,we provide you with UL approved circuit boards with a variety of final finishes that meet the requirements of RoHS regulations.

RoHS or the Restriction of Hazardous Substances focuses on the use of six specific substances; Lead, Mercury, Cadmium, Hexavalent Chromium, Polybrominated biphenyls and Polybrominated diphenylether. The last two are fire retardants used in several types of plastic. The amount of each substance used in a product is limited to a maximum concentration based on the weight of homogeneous material used in a product.

For circuit boards, RoHS compliance is controlled by two components: The base material  (including solder-stop and marking print) and the surface finish.
The respective manufacturers (Shengyi, Kingboard, etc.) have confirmed the RoHS compliance of our base materials without any limitations.

The PCB surface finish is selected by the customer. In addition to the HAL SnPb surface (which contains lead, but is still permitted in some cases), the following lead-free surfaces are available from GLOBAL PCB

  • Immersion tin
  • Immersion silver
  • Immersion gold (ENIG)
  • ENEPIG
  • HAL lead-free
  • OSP

If you have been ordering your circuit boards with HAL SnPb (lead-tin) surfaces up to now, you may select one of these lead-free surface alternatives in the future; the normal choices are immersion gold or HAL lead-free.

The immersion gold surface has increasingly become a more popular alternative to HAL, because its planar (flat) character makes it ideally suited for SMD.
